“Helping Hands” partners with Friends for Conservation and Development to clean along the Mopan River in the Cayo District

On Saturday, 4 May 2019, “Helping hands” (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS)) partnered with the Succotz Youth Group of Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in the Cayo District, to clean along the Mopan River.

There were 18 volunteers including missionaries who started at 9am and finished at 12 noon.  A lot of trash was collected, three pickup loads.   The youth group was happy to have partnered with “Helping Hands”, which was well organized, and to have accomplished a lot in one day.   The clean-up was most needed after the Easter celebrations and other events that bring a lot of people to the Succotz River.

FCD is a well-known conservation group in the country https://www.fcdbelize.org/.  Their headquarters is directly in front of the Succotz LDS Chapel and they have used the facilities many times to carry out meetings and training to their staff.
