World leader of the church speaks to marriages in Central America

"Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. "The Family, a Proclamation to the World".

On Sunday, November 4, Elder Ulisses Soares, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the second presiding body and the administration of the Church) held a special devotional for couples. The devotional was held in a meeting center of the Church in Guatemala City and was transmitted via satellite to the meeting centers of the Central American countries.

 

During the devotional a forum was held in which Elder Ulisses Soares and his wife Rosana; Elder Juan A. Uceda, President of the Area and his wife María Isabel; Elder Valeri Cordón, first counselor of the Area Presidency and his wife Glenda; and Elder Roberto Gonzales, Area Seventy and his wife Lilian, participated as panelists.

The forum dealt with issues that provided marriages with tools to strengthen their relationship as a couple and help each other as families. Topics were discussed such as: the importance of time and as a balance between home, work, study and other activities; How to develop a kindness culture, forgiveness, love in families; How to improve communication, how to face challenges in marriages and other issues to help marriages strengthen and enjoy their families.

At the end of the forum, Elder Ulisses Soares gave an inspiring message for married couples, in which he was invited to study "The Family, a Proclamation to the World," the document in which church members base their teachings on the family. He also invites to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, the development of love between man and woman, fathers and children’s, pray as a family, read scriptures, and constantly participate in Home evenings.

Brother César Pérez commented: "Elder Soares encouraged us to work as a couple in the care and love each other, I see the details for simply they seems make the differences in family traditions and make to the marriage strong and successful, our children listen to the voice of the Lord, allow us to recognize and do correct decisions and separate between truth and error, now I have more tasks at home, I will have to help my wife in the trades, what I used to do at home, but this encourages me to understand that I am on the right way, I am grateful to hear the advice of our leaders and to know that "We can reach a balance, establish relationships and live every moment with intensity, take care of my wife and daughters, bless them and work for them. "

The leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constantly provide messages to families so they can be strengthened. Elder L. Tom Perry said "In the world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make family the center of our lives and give it absolute priority. The family is the center of our Heavenly Father's plan.
