Belize Diabetes Association received a significant donation from the Church

On July 1, 2022, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belize donated medical equipment and items to the Belize Diabetes Association (BDA) for the benefit of more than a thousand low-income Belizeans who will be able to monitor their diabetes.

The donation consisted in 300 Evencare G2 Blood Glucose Monitors, 700 Easy Plus II Glucose Monitors, 600 Evencare G2 Glucose Teste Strips Medline, 2 thousand East Tal/Plus II Glucose Test Strips, and one thousand Logbooks, for registration of glucose levels, setting goals, modifying diet, and establishing exercise routines for patients to lead healthier lives.  All of this will be monitored by the BDA.

Leovany Lopez, church leader and first counselor of the El Salvador West/Belize Mission, referred to the mission of the Church and the example of the Savior of serving one another and helping those in need.

The acting president of the BDA, Lynette Valerie Valerio, in addition to expressing her gratitude for the donation, said that children with Type 1 Diabetes will be the first on the list of beneficiaries.  She said 50,000 Belizeans are dealing with the Diabetes and this will be a blessing for a group of them.

"“I feel very moved that [the Church] has brought us this donation because it is not pleasant how it feels when the sugar level varies and you do not know how high or how low it is and you do not know how to deal with it, for which [this donation] is very important, especially having a monitor to check where your blood sugar level is." Nyle B., a diabetes patient.

The donation is part of the humanitarian aid that the Church of Jesus Christ provides throughout the world, in its effort to serve others as Jesus Christ taught by saying "This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men." Titus 3:8.
