How will you Light the World?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints once again launches its worldwide initiative to remember the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ and to invite people to serve, through small acts of service to others.

This initiative reaches millions of people around the world during the holiday season. This year´s theme, "Give as He Gave," invites people to follow the example of the Savior Jesus Christ, "the light of the world" (John 8:12).

The initiative invites for four weeks to light the world in different ways, for each week a video has been prepared and a theme of how we can be that light to the world. The themes are:

First week

  • "Light the World", participants are encouraged to serve those in need around de world, such as donating food to the needy, donate items in good condition to charities.

In addition, an invitation is made to join the world service day, which will take place on December 1, and with this activity you will be initiating this campaign.

Second week

  • "Light Your Community", encourages the audience to seek opportunities for service in their communities, for example: helping a neighbor, helping an elderly neighbor with household chores, sharing a family tradition with a friend, among other acts of service.

Third week

  • "Light Your family", Invite to show love for those who are closer to you, parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, uncles, etc. You can demonstrate love by a call phone to parents, praying as a family, spending time with children or other activities.

Fourth week

  • "Light Your faith", is an invitation to increase your faith according to your religious beliefs, through prayer, the scriptures. People are also invited to a special Christmas service that will take place on December 23 at the meeting centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.

Elder David A. Bednar explained: "The purpose of this initiative is to celebrate and share the light of Christ. What we expect people to do is not simply think about the Savior during this Christmas season, or just learn more about Him. What we hope is that they get to know Him by doing what He did."

Those who participate in the initiative can share their experiences on social networks using the hashtag #Lighttheworld. For more information you can visit the site
